Classic!

For the next two or three weeks I am stuck in Weirton, West Virginia. No idea how to describe it, there is no UK equivalent, but a backwater believe me.

Anyway, in the bar, of course, talking to the barman who likes football because he was in Germany with his G,fiend for a while.

He asked me where I come from and when I tell him Wolverhampton he says, "oh yes, premiership team right?" So I brought him up to date.

So then I asked him the other obvious question, "Do you know who WBA are", he replied, "they are in the 3rd division right"!

I know where that is. The little finger of West Virginia that seems like it ought to be in Ohio or Pennsylvania. Used to go through Wheeling from time to time. You do travel to some odd places.

Been to Wheeling, West Virginia, some 20 years ago; my wife and I saw Tammy Wynette sing her signature tune, "Stand by your Man," live there. Bit of a fluke really, my wife and I dropped by the theatre about ten minutes before the curtain went up. The box-office lady said there were only two seats together left. We grabbed them on the spot.

Great story Tund. Weirton is a little up the river from Wheeling, but the same kind of place. Ex steel town, although the economy and the local prices, are getting a big boost from the gas and oil boom that is going on.

Glad to hear that, Woody, West Virginia has never been a well-to-do area of the country.
