Chasing Records.

Kenny Jackett will resist the temptation to shuffle his record-chasing side for this weekend's clash with Coventry City.

With no injuries from Monday's victory at Leyton Orient the Wolves manager will instead urge his men to try to break Plymouth's League One record points total.

"We have got a number of records to break, including the 102 points set by Plymouth a number of years ago, if it was possible to do that we would like to. You don't get many opportunities to do that," Jackett said.

Plymouth's record of 102 points was achieved in Nationwide Football League Division 3 in season 2001-02. This was the fourth tier of English League Football at the time, so not the equivalent League.

I can't see that Plymouth's record has any relevance. Any thoughts?

Comparing one Division to another is always fraught with controversy and arguments. It would be nice to get over 102 pts then sit back and let the Press and the Pundits argue over the legitimacy or importance of such feats. It would, however, not involve the whole of English football as how can you compare pts accumulation records when the new record holders(?) play 46 games and the strongest league, the EPL, plays only 38. It would be like comparing pineapples to oranges to see which is the bigger, better fruit.

The record number of points in a 3 points for a win, 46 match season, seems to be Reading's haul of 106 in the Championship in the 2005-06 season. In our Division, or the third tier, Fulham got 101 points in 2000-01 and Charlton got 101 points in 2011-12. Wigan got 100 in 2002-03.

So, as far as I can see 102 points will give us the record for the third tier - unless anyone knows any different.

Thanks Dudley. The annoying thing is that all and sundry are now, lemming-like, taking it that Plymouth's 102 points is the target to beat!
