Freedmans genius tactics.
Last season Bolton played derby away, they were there for the taking that night.Genius dougie just wanted to stop them scoring and nick a one nil.Problem with the idea was we never had a shot at their goal which was on target. And for the last 20mins our doogie took off our lone striker for another defender. Our team was then set up 550 I kid you not. :/ :/game ended nil nil.

To be fair whatsmore, I did wonder why at the time he left Palace? There they were perched near the top, he should have stayed. Bolton turned out clearly to be a mistake.
But given our circumstances and play in recent months, he starts here somewhat differently from the Trotters. Here he's not immediately expected to achieve anything, just steady the ship and prepare for next season.
So hopefully, he'll make use of the honeymoon period to sort things out. Next season would be when he'd be expected to produce results and makes us competitive.

I don't think we're getting the whole picture. Weren't you heading for League One when he first joined you yet you narrowly missed out on the play offs that season?

I do. This looks a perfect fit, young manager and with a team much better suited to counter attacking football.
The players at Forest are far better than he had at Bolton.

It's not really true to say that Duggie favours counter attacking football Bluebird. He's obsessed by keeping a clean sheet and not too fussed about what happens up the other end. He reasons that somehow his team will create a couple of chances in a match and relies on his striker to put one away.
The players at Wanderers that you clearly don't rate haven't half done well under Lennon.
Duggie's a decent man but he's a novice and a naive manager. Unfortunately he is also arrogant, stubborn and stands by his methods and tactics no matter how unsuccessful they prove to be.
He is also a poor man manager and all sorts of shenanigans were going down in the dressing room which he chose to ignore, hoping the problems would just go away.
Give it 6 months (if he gets th
re: Freedmans genius tactics.
Well Don to be honest, I think he's only a short term fix. I too don't see him lasting under trigger happy Fawaz.
But at the moment clean sheets are a premium with us and if he can stop the rot in defense, then we should be able to build from there.
And yes, we do need to get used to borings 1 nils. Our fans will eventually start moaning the dire football, we are a fickle lot and love to moan when things go even a little awry, so expect a lot of complaints when we become dour.
But for the moment I'll take dour over dire, which is what we've been playing in every single game bar that victory over Derby.
re: Freedmans genius tactics.
Majority of Bolton fans turned on Freedman so you'll be lucky to get a balanced opinion, but I'll have a go at explaining the circumstances.
With £160 million of debt and relegation from the Premiership we were shafted. Off the pitch Freedman did a great job, offloading lots of overpaid ponces and putting a team together on the cheap. He built up the youth set up which has now benefited Lennon who has taken all the glory for it.
On the pitch Freedman was atrocious, dogmatically sticking to a system when we didn't have the quality of player to make it work - his focus on clean sheets reflects his managerial training in Italy but sadly we didn't have a bunch of Maldinis.
But he did the groundwork on a low budget and I for one am convinced it would have come good eventually, but patience ran out. Lennon has done the opposite, focusing on the first X1, getting a few results by making a few tweaks - and in part, cashing in on the foundations Freedman built.
I suspect he was appointed at Fo
