What Alex fan will ever forget that goal, especially those of us who were there to witness it first hand? ;D
But I've got to hand it to Adam.
The power - and swerve! - that he put on the ball to beat arguably one of the world's top 3 keepers, (not sure I ranked Kevin Dearden quite so high!) - and on his own patch too! - was pure class!
Considering how outstanding Chelsea are as a team this season, (and maybe that's why!), Stamford Bridge has certainly witnessed 2 of the most astonishing events, (going against Chelsea), in the entire history of English football - Bradford and now this!
More please! >:)
Which is easier? To take a lash at an already moving ball, as Adam, Becks, Xabi Alonso and Figueroa did, or to hit a dead ball? In the former situation, a little of the kicker's work is done for him.
I know he's a Marmite figure on this board, but that sad waste of talent Gary Roberts Mk I should be brought into the equation. He was playing for Rotherham by this time, I think, and took a free kick from a similar distance, because of the angle, inside his own half, I think. He literally seemed to bend down to spot the ball and kick it without looking at the GK. Quite amazing.
While we're on the subject, I hope that Gary Roberts Mk II, our most reluctant loanee ever, can be kept quiet this afternoon.
Still prefer Shaun's freekick away to Gillingham a couple of years later. Taken from the half way line it was still rising when it hit the back of the net. Wonder strike!!!! :DQuote:
