Hampshire's form since the end of June has been like Dr Johnson's quip: The thought of execution concentrates the mind wonderfully.
“Why should you think so?” responded Johnson. “Depend upon it, Sir, when a man knows he is to be hanged in a fortnight, it concentrates his mind wonderfully.”
As for form, poor old Vince our Captain hardly got going at all, and our two openers only towards the season end. Fortunately, our lower order people performed arguably better with the bat than with the ball for the most part, saving our bacon in some draws, before hoisting us up to safety with a late burst of wickets against Notts.
How we made the Quarter finals of both Cups and actual Finals day in one, I shall never know, as it seemed we were destined to continue our Leicestershire impersonation from the very beginning of the season. To continue in this vein now that we have secured Division one status for another year would appear churlish, so I'll say well done for the Cup campaigns, we
