Likes yer SciFi then Ant. Haven't read much SciFi apart from one or two of the greats - Ray Bradbury (The Martian Chronicles rated one of the best SciFi books ever?) and Michael Moorcock. Recently read The Martian which I thought was superb.
Latest read: Little Apple by Leo Perutz about an Austrian Officer hunting down a sadistic Russian prison camp commander in the days after WW1. Just starting: A Place of Greater Safety - Hilary Mantel's French Revolution epic.
Corky/Ant. I often wonder how people choose their next read.Pure chance, reviews, recommendations.
Please enlighten me.
And Corky, how do you find time to read.Do you read as you sow (in your allotment I mean)
What a good question Scou. I must admit to struggling to find books I enjoy and often buy a book because I like the cover and you know what they say about that. Generally I break them down into categories I like such as history, adventure, biographies etc and then do a search on Amazon. If you put in a book you have enjoyed they have a section that says "people that have bought this book also bought this" which gives similar options. I've also got an old mate who reads all the time and, as he has similar preferences to me, has been pointing me in the right literary direction for the last 50 years. As to finding time I read for about an hour every night before I go to sleep - it sends me off quickly.

My partner of 14 years had never read a book before I met her. She now reads more than me. We've both got Kindles,(which are the best thing since sliced bread). The best book i've ever read? 'A Tale of Two City's, (****ens), a nea

For me, it always starts with the author, I only buy books by authors that I've enjoyed before. Loved ones tend to buy me books similar to those I read anyway, which then occasionally ends up with a new author being added to my buy list.
Was always the late great Sir Terry Pratchett, followed by Rob Rankin, John Grisham, and a select few others. This of course goes out of the window when buying reference books. Then I go on recommendation.
