An old program.

In St Ives today when I came across an old 2nd hand shop. Mrs Stan was elsewhere so I went in and found a load of old program's, one of which was Stoke v Newcastle United, Monday 27th March 1967.

Must have been on Sky?

The side was:

Marshall
Craig
Clark
Elliott
McNamee
Iley
Bennett
Noble
Davies
Hilley
Robson

We were third bottom of division 1, Sunderland were 15th.

It reads " never afraid to enter the transfer market in a big way Newcastle have paid out something like £130,000 on new signings in the last five months"

Always like having a mooch through 2nd hand shops, amazing what you can find there.

I know Jam. Couldn't believe it. The owner was a Wigan fan. We chatted for ages.

The front cover has a bloke on it with a rattle, one of them wooden things that you wouldn't get near a football ground with now, thankfully. 😃

The program was priced 6d.

Hard to believe Stan but I was at that game which we won, I think 1-0 and saved our 1st Div status. I had moved to the Midlands, to a village called Chadwick End, 12 miles south of B'ham for four years from 1964 to 68 so there were plenty of 1st Division teams to visit.

i have every programme )home from 1964 -1970
i think

i brought them at a charity auction

i used t buy a programme at every game and the pink for the train on the way home
still got them boxed up in my mother in laws garage
some have the odd signature on from players youu saw on the train on the way home

Funnily enough Pat, I thought of you when I saw it. There's a few players I've heard of. One thing I love about it is how they go about publishing the half time scores.

A 2-1 , refers to program, Blackpool's winning 2-1 against Chelsea.

They used to have massive big hand operated score boards, usually sited in the least popular corner of the ground.

These were black, about 20ft square with a gantry behind and as the newspaper reporters got their info the would pass it onto the clubs and an operator on the gantry scaffold behind the boards would put in the info on metal plates. A bit like the judges at ice skating holding up the scores.

The Robson on the team was the first Bryan "Pop" Robson who was a Sunderland lad, played for us for years at Centre forward but equally good as inside forward(no 10) or on the wing. We could do with him now.
