Even in the dark days of Billy Whitehurst and George Reilly, the number 9 always has and always will be special.
Mick Quinn brought it back to life, then Andy Cole and so on....
It's still special and will always need a special player to wear it.
it's iconic and always will be even though it's been disgraced by several to wear it.
Would love to have a number 9 we could be proud of.
It's special and i think always will be.
When you think of Newcastle Utd players its the number 9 you think of first.
Regardless of some who have worn it.
Cissé was a proper No. 9 for a while. Gayle hasn't been IMO, but it's not that he's disgraced the shirt at all. Just hasn't been good enough. Carroll is probably the latest to take a big sh!t all over it?
Since I was a kid I always admired the number 9s,Jacky Milburn,Len White,Barry Thomas,Wyn Davies,Supermac,Andy Cole,Les Ferdinand,Shearer.
I watched all of the above but the ones we have had in the last few years are only fit to clean their boots.
Have to say I wouldn't like to have defended against Supermac, he was a fearless beast. Has to be him for me, bow legs anaarl ! XD
