Aye up EP at the moment I am spending a few days in Wensleydale especially in Middleham, have you ever been? Because with your interest in horse racing I think you would love it. As you know it is the racing capital of the north and though it is a small town there are numerous racing stables all over. Trainers like Phil Keniry, Ben Haslam, Simon West and Micky Hammond plus the massive yards of Mark Johnson and many more.
All day horses are moving about the town on their way up to the gallops which are immense, the work riders are so polite and friendly and always speak to you.
Plus there is also the fantastic scenery and walks.
Thought you might be interested, apologies if you have already been.

No, never been, but it sounds just my kind of place and I would love to visit one day. The other big racehorse training place in Yorkshire is Malton, and I did spend a really good weekend there. Julie Camacho has trained Elite horses for many years, and she had a cottage on the outskirts of her yard in nearby Norton which was offered to Elite Racing Club members at a discount. It was as you describe, the whole place revolved around horses.

The only solution is stop horse racing.

An Act of Parliament is needed.

Unfortunately, the gambling lobby and wealthy proponents (a lot of foreigners) would use their leverage to make sure such an Act is never debated.

Yep, that would certainly stop the death of racehorses but it would also stop the birth of racehorses. The thoroughbred is one of nature's finest creations but it has one purpose only, and that is to race. To ban horse racing would ultimately reduce it to a zoo species. It's like saying that because some people die in road accidents, we should ban all cars.

Undoubtedly, demand for race horses would crash. Such a shame they were bred that way in the first place.

Even so, horse racing should be stopped. To continue is to perpetuate horrific atrocities on an innocent animal that has no say in the matter. It is shameful and should not be tolerated in today's society. 100 years from now, people will look back on horse racing and wonder how people could be so barbaric.

Would the world come to a stop because racehorses were no longer bred? Racehorses, like exotic dog breeds are a manipulation of nature for man's purile pleasure. Man makes a decision to get into a car, a horse, generally, doesn't run until it is lathered in sweat, it certainly isn't under the crop to go faster to let some muppet win a few quid.
But of course horses love jumping fences with friggin great drops on the other side, that's why you see them leaping over fences when they are in fields. Horses leaping hedges and kicking their back legs in glee!!! See it all the time.

The horses don't even know what's on the other side of those fences they're forced to jump.

Imagine their terror every time they are forced to leap into the great unknown. At best, they'll thump the ground and keep on going. At worst, they'll get a horrific injury, like, say, a leg smashed into pieces with bone gaping through their flesh. And then, they'll get destroyed.

So sad.

Utter rubbish. Horse racing has gone on for many centuries and will continue for many centuries. Certain 'sports' have quite rightly been banned because their purpose was to kill an animal. From bear baiting through to the likes of hare coursing and fox hunting in recent times it was the correct decision to end them. I am pleased that every effort is being made to reduce equine fatalities in racing in conjunction with the RSPCA these days, best of luck to them.
