Best and Worst Years

According to those "experts" the year 536 AD was the worst year to be alive. Apparently a thick fog hung over Europe and other bad stuff was happening.

In contrast, this expert suggests that this year (2018) is the best one ever to be alive. More democracy, greater lifespan, less famine etc. Hard to argue against.

Try telling that to the good folk of Yemen, Syria, Gaza, Myanmar, Honduras, persecuted Christians across the globe and the estimated 14 million citizens of the UK who are reported to be living below the poverty line.

Try telling that to the homeless who spent last night trying not to freeze to death or the mothers who will by necessity be nipping to the local food bank to feed their kids.

Try telling that to our neighbour across the road who has just had a potential life saving operation cancelled because of "staff shortages" at Royal Bolton.

Pray tell your "expert" to try pissing up the other leg because this one is wet through.

These 14 million people living in poverty BT, in the interests of accuracy, would you like to define 'poverty' ? I take it we're not talking absolute poverty here ?

1995 the United Nations adopted two definitions of poverty.

Absolute poverty was defined as:

Here was me thinking that you were going to be a missionary to Yemen, Syria, Gaza, Myanmar, Honduras or somewhere else that was in strife. BT --my illusions are shattered. >;)
