o/t The Oscars. rewriting history

Just been reading about Olivia Coleman's Oscar success for her performance of Queen Anne.

The film shows Queen Anne in a lesbian relationship.

The director of the film, says Yorgos Lanitmos said about the film:

"Some of the things in the film are accurate and a lot aren't."

There is no firm evidence at all that Anne had a lesbian relationship.

Isn't incorporating current day issues into a period drama, which ultimately gives a false impression of a major historical figure, dangerous, misleading and dishonest?

Or is it re-addressing the balance? (Many historical figures who were homo***ual have had books and films made about them, which omitted this area of their lives)

Interested to know your opinions.

It’s just a ploy to give crap films some media exposure.

But the sheep fall for it every time.

Close to home take Dr Who for example, a failing outdated bit of “acorn antiques” style special effects. So to revive it cause a bit of internet hoo-ha by wanting a female doctor.

Fair enough but there’s this female doctor with a tardis that can travel anywhere in time and space. The controls are set and the wonder machine ends up in the same time and place as civil rights activist Rosa Parks. The following week the wonder machine ends up in Colonial India. If it was a second hand car you would take it back.

Historical figures have said Anne was a Lesbian some have said she wasn't. while theirs some truth in the matter or not people have a right to either portray it or not in film or other art. We will never no for sure and frankly i do not care. Films often stretch the imagination and twist things for entertainment .I suspect been gay or lesbian, a crime back then was more common than people have made out and i expect many figures in power where that ***ually. On giving it a false impression the grey area whether she was or wasn't gives the film maker enough scope to use it .

.....or if I need escapism, Steven Seagal on yet another gratuitous body count caper...

I don't think they took asmany liberties with Anne, as they did with Braveheart. That story was unrecognizable.

Olivia Coleman relies on that little girly voice thing she does, don't know if that's going to work as she gets older, will probably come across as creepy but suppose she can play villains.
