Do we wrap our better players in cotton wool or play them to keep them up to speed?
The players I refer to are Hegazi, (recently carrying a reoccurring ankle problem) Phillips, who although back needs to keep on the move as he may not have the fitness levels for two high octane games in a short space of time, but we don’t want to risk further injury as he’s prone to relapses. Gibbs, hopefully he’s over the hip problem now? Gayle has history of breaking down too.
Shan could be in a no win situation, We lose Ipswich win, and he plays a weakened team he’ll be moaned at but what’s the likelihood of an Ipswich win? We go with a strong line up to try and get third spot, Ipswich lose anyway, we pick up knocks to crucial players, Shan will get slaughtered for risking our big guns.
For me, I’d protect Hegazi without a doubt, Philips I’d maybe bring him on for the last twenty to top up his fitness levels, Gibbs is naturally fit as a flea so nothing to be gained by risking him so play Townsend. Gayle, leave him out and play HRK.
The season is almost over, players will be at the fittest they’ve ever been by now after months of playing, a rest won’t hurt for some and won’t do any harm. Plus there’s too much to be asked of Ipswich so why put all your chips on one colour?
I say let’s play it safe and try to get over the line injury free. Knackers to Derby and Ipswich.
