I've never managed to get my head around the concept of a Hall of Fame. It seems to be some sort of low level public relations exercise without any real benefit.

Me neither. I think it's different if they were started long ago with an exclusive membership, getting in as a modern inductee would clearly represent a significant achievement. But starting from scratch now is simply an excuse for another s****y do in a hotel...Motherwell have literally scores of folk who should be in such a thing by now, if we're going to have it at all.
