Youngsters -the future

Sean’s first priority on geting his first promotion was to build Barnfield to attract and develop youngsters. That was a way we could stay in the PL and it had worked well buying young players and brining them on (and buying players On the scrap heap at other clubs and giving them a new lease of life)
I have been frustrated by him now not giving them a chance to shine. The June games were one chance, the Southampton game needed a change and 5 youngsters were on the bench, no one got on! They looked demoralised as if Sean was rellling them they weren’t good enough
Has he shifted his philosophy?

I think he was making a point OC, but Garlick refuses to listen. :blue:

I don't think Sean has shifted OC, he's always been of the 'can't win nowt with kids' school, or in his case 'you need experience to survive'. I'm fairly sure the average age of our squad is one of the oldest in the PL, if not the oldest, and look at Tom Anderson, I don't know if Sean thought he was good at carrying cones or brewing tea or what, but he was almost old enough to draw his pension when he finally left, and Sean still hadn't given him a game.

If true that’s a pity especially as youngsters are getting games for City, Chelsea, Liverpool and doing well. Why play Long when Jimmy Dunne did so well and is the future.
The business model that would work for us is to bring on youngsters and find new Westwood’s and Heatons. That seems to be the ALK plan.

It is true OC, it's not just my opinion, look at 1) the average age of our squad and 2) the number of kids who get a game.

1) Oldest in the division.
2) None.

Found this in 2017 Chairman’s statement, which is a plan of sorts to develop talent. It isn’t working partly as Sean hasn’t given them a chance.

Koiki is interesting Charlton, so we may get some training money as he’s only 21.

I suspect the reason Sean hasn't given them the chance is because they're not good enough. The rest of the Leagues are not exactly awash with youngsters Sean refused to give a chance to. But Non-League is.

True for some, a lot are in lower divisions. He didn’t play Dunne Saturday, yet he was MoM and goal scorer in his two games. Some may just need a decent chance not 2 mins at the end of a game.

I agree about Dunne OC, he's not a kid any more, he looks to me at least on a par with Long and he's our future, I don't see what's to lose by giving him a run alongside Tarko. I tend to be on Sean's side usually, but he has me baffled on this one. :blue:
