Re the hand of god, he was simply expecting to be clattered but as it turned out Shilton couldn't even get two inches off the ground let alone take him and the ball.

Never happy that anyone has died. A fantastic player, who a bit like Gascogne, lost his way in life. We may moan about the hand of god, but if one of ours had scored it, there would have been no complaints. His other goal in that game was pure footballing brilliance.

There have been far worse in life. Ultimately, death isn’t really a punishment for what we’ve done in life. We probably suffer far more, for what we’ve fvcked up, while we’re still alive.
