The bar under the old Brummie
Remember it, it was built into the ground and you had to enter it down some steps.
We used to watch Albion fan's come in with the scarves of whoever we were playing when it was fashionable to take them in the sixties and seventies.
Some kept them as scalps, I had a few, but sometimes they were taken up onto the terrace and burnt in a ceremonial fire.
One Manchester United supporter decided to set up a stall selling United merchandise near the Hawthorns Hotel, not a good idea. He was stripped of everything in his stall including the clothes he was wearing apart from his underwear.
I recall being in the bar before one game and the police came in, looked around, spotted a bloke drinking with his mates and hauled him out.
One of his mates shouted, Where you going Dave? It's your round."
The bar had the unique smell of brown ale, ham cobs, Bovril and tobacco smoke.
Proper football ground back then.
