Fleetwood Town Post Match Thoughts

As the old adage says "Never pay too much heed to what happens in the Tinpot Cup" or "Pride comes before a fall". I got the impression that many Millers thought it was just a question of turning up today to see how many our 'quality' squad would win by but most of us have supported RUFC long enough to know that's rarely the case. So what went wrong? Poor team selection or were our pedestrian defenders finally found out? Whatever it is PW only has a few days to sort it out before we head to Lincoln who scored 5 away at Cambridge today.

Even more bizarre than the result today is the fact that the BBC seem to have decided to flip flop between using Wes Harding and Hylton Harding?

What an absolutely turgid afternoon of football. We never truly got going. A couple of minutes before halftime we had some concerted pressure that culminated with the penalty. We regressed to the hoof ball all too much, again. Fleetwood are the stereotypical midtable league 1 team. Average as average can be. Fair play to them for taking their chances mind you, some cracking finishing. The number 9, Morton, terrorised our back line all game. We played into their hands all game, the hoofball approach does not work. The Smudge and Freddie tandem does not work. I don't know if one or both of them is to blame, or neither, they just don't link up that well. Then again, first half they did on the break one time, when the ball was on the floor.....

Rathbone played well, credit to him, he actually played well again. Smudge was alright. That's as good as it got for me. I won't go through the rest individually but off the pace and lacking in quality sums up pretty much everyone from Ladapo trying to score from the outside of his boot at an awful angle to Chieo not being able to cross for most of the game.

We look so much better when we play on the floor, why we constantly resort to hoofing it I just don't know. We needed more guile when going forward, we needed a Dan (I know, had to say it) to get on the ball and link it up a bit. Just so poor, all afternoon. I'm getting a KFC to cheer myself up, ah well.

Lastly, Wiles MOTM, okayyyy.

Poor setup today, I'll have to go and see what formation we were playing because I couldn't make much sense of it.

Might have been the same system that hammered Doncaster but the shape today was off, especially after our early pressure didn't produce the killer balls.

The whole team just looked like they were either miffed or a bit tired because they never got going.

Rathbone and wiles the highlight at times but I've forgotten most of the game already.

Agree with much of this. Warne not doing him or us any favours. Their manager knew how we were going to play, with two wing backs that really aren't, and got his players to quickly release the ball over and into the gaps where the wing backs weren't. And they had a player perfectly placed for that role making Wes look a league 2 player. Few players emerge with credit, some occasional decent quick passing but wasteful end product.

Ah well, guess Warne deserves the inevitable gleeful kicking on this thread on this occasion. Just not good enough

Absolutely dire from both players and management. We just panicked and played kick and rush when we went behind. Substitutions...absolutely bizarre. Rathbone was probably our best player. And then he took Lindsay off for Grigg who seemed to play in midfield. Meanwhile, Ladapo is still on the pitch at the end of the game having done nothing. Hopefully just one of those days.

Lets be honest we were footballed to death.

Dissecting the match, their CF was amazing, too good for our defence.

How bad was the Transfer window? Rathbone apart rest are not fit to play or in Edmunds Green his case never a centre back. It was a shambles Ogbene shouldn't have played two right sided players on the left. Ladapo never in the game. Wood he's gone. Wiles when manager took Rathbone off to bring Barlaser on it didn't go down well with the crowd. We're short at centre back have we got a left back fit to play with a back 4? Warney it's one season too long should have gone in the summer.

First of all i want to know who votes for MOTM .Second why did out nice manager take Rathbone off (unless he was injured) because it wasn't tactical he left the worst player today on the field in his place.. We have to go back to back 4 .Morton Bullied Harding all game and hes half his size. Hoof ball with no direction .But its ok we have nice humans beings in the door . Absolute dogger from min 1

I think Rathbone, Ogbene and Wiles were the better players today but there were too many average performances today. At half time we'd pulled it back to lead 2-1 and we were on top, shame the half time whistle had to blow. In the second half we never got going.
Ladapo was poor (as usual), and Smith wasn't much better. I would have had Grigg on from the start. I think with a few games behind him he'll prove to be our best striker. On to Lincoln now who found their goal scoring boots today, but didn't we find ours just a few days ago? Just one of those days today that every team has to endure from time to time. The trick is to not let it become the norm ......

The less said the better.
