If he has pace to beat his man, the slow build up play is irrelevant. When he is 1 v 1 he should have the confidence to go at his man. The playing style isn’t impacting this, and I have seen numerous moments where he could go at his man and HE is choosing the easy option, often a pass backwards. Notts played the same way at the back end of last season and Miller was much more productive in his 1v1s, though the end product wasn’t always their.
Don’t get me wrong. I wish sometimes we did things quicker. I sometimes wish certain ‘star’ players would make more space for themselves instead of standing stationary. Roberts is guilty of this. I don’t know if it’s him or IB, as our one and only genuine winger, he should interchange flank throughout. This would make him harder to mark and would also test different defensive shape. At the moment he is easy to mark and teams can set up easily against him.
As we play 3 up front there is no rationale for me as to why RR and Cal can’t be much more fluid in their positional play.
Francis is being given a hard time by some. In our last home game he was the one that played forward through the lines, the one area that many on here say we aren’t doing enough. I also noticed, particularly in the first half that Palmer emptied the centre and was often nearer Roberts than Francis.
I love how people want Vincent in, given we haven’t seen him play.
