When you think of Boxing Day football which game comes to mind?
I must have been to lots, but for some unknown reason the one I think of first is being ripped apart by Dave Bassett's Sheff Utd with an unbelievable performance from journeyman full-back Martin Pike...
I was thinking of that because 1-4 is a classic Boxing Day away win - I fancied this for King's Lynn but deducted 1 for Ruben being out
One Boxing Day game that sticks in my mind is the 1975 morning kick-off against Fulham at Craven Cottage. Not because of the result, ‘cause we lost. Maybe because I had to get up early after the previous day’s Christmas festivities, to motor down to London. It’s the only away morning kick-off I can remember attending. Fulham were 2-0 up soon after half-time, then with about 15 minutes left substitute Mick Vinter pulled one back for the Magpies. Then it looked like we’d come away with a point when Les Bradd dispossessed Bobby Moore and crossed for Ian Scanlon to equalise, only for Fulham to get their third, two minutes from time. I seem to think all three Fulham goals were headers. Needham and Stubbs must have had an off-day!
That does sound memorable - and not an easy place to get to, even in 1975.Quote:

Phil Turner doing a somersault after scoring in a 4-0 win against Shrewsbury. I think it was the first time he ever did that, at least at Meadow Lane.
First proper Boxing Day match I ever went to (on the 26th and not a Christmas Tuesday on the 28th) was an 11:30am kick off, lost 3-0 to Luton Town.
I was thinking about that one as well but wasn't sure it was Boxing Day - that was another game we were destroyed by a full-back Mitchell Thomas this time. I was almost certainly at that Shrews game but have zero memory of it!Quote:

Not sure why, but the 3-3 home draw with QPR in 2003 springs to mind first. They were near the top, we ended up being relegated, but a Paul Heffernan hat-trick put us 3-2 ahead until they equalised in the last minute.Quote:

Hard to believe the huge gulf between the two sides 30 years on - one a team full of superstars, the other managed by Thomas Tuchel.
I cant remember if it was boxing day or new years day to be honest but I remember on one of those going to watch us play Brighton at the lane and we won 2-1 I think and someone possibly Tommy scored after about 20 seconds.
Blackburn away Boxing Day 1990….just met my future wife and decided to ‘treat’ her to her first Notts game even though she was full of flu…not a great start and got even worse when fog descended and couldn’t see the goal at the far end until it lifted briefly in time for Kevin Bartlett to score the only goal!!…happy days!!
