One rule for the Russians and a different rule for everyone else
What we have to take into account of in the present crisis is the likelihood that the Americans have for at least the last 50 years had nuclear weapons systems locked onto the several largest cities in Russia and the Russians have reciprocated.
Presumably the Russians have also included at least London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Belfast etc in their scheme whilst we no doubt have a bow and arrow pointed at Moscow.
So, in the current situation if the Americans (or a consortium involving them) do anything that the Russians do not like, the implication is that such escalation would be regarded as serious enough to go to this higher level. Thus the Putin atrocities can continue, that is OK but the Americans (or a consortium involving them) doing anything to kick the Russians out of Ukraine would amount to the start of World War Three.
