Wow what a day
Our Notts county beat Brighton to gain promotion to the top tier of football
And what a game it was
Notts we’re simply ruthless that day
Our Tommy was on fire
I lived in littlehampton and used to travel every weekend to watch Notts on a Saturday and devoted to my Sunday football the following day
The journey to Wembley that day was a sea on blue and little old me with my county flags getting no end of stick with some complimentary finger signs along the way,
Great support that day,great celebrations and what a frickin journey home down south
Will forever live in my memory
Thankyou Notts county
If only we could get back near that I would die a happy man

Just thought it would be nice to put some refreshing news back on the forum

An away league game at Springfield Park to an away league game at Old Trafford in the space of 16 months, with virtually the same squad.
What a time to be alive.

Luton Town have shown it can be done, and in a sustainable way. It's an old but true cliche that the first step is often the hardest. In our case that's because we're in a league with so few promotion spots available and a number of well-matched clubs competing for them, but we have to stick at it. Once you get that huge ball called momentum rolling from a standing start, it can run for some time.

Luton aren't much bigger than Notts gates wise but they probably will take a significant step up on that front when they relocate.
Thanks largely to their plastic pitch, they spent 10 seasons in the top flight 1982/83-1991/92 during which time they won the League Cup and IIRC reached two FAC semis, so their fans probably have higher expectations and generally demand more than ours do. Their relegation was basically a punishment handed out by the FL, rather than self inflicted on the pitch. Also last in the 2nd tier as recently as 2007 before the current run at that level.

Short of something drastic happening at Notts, Oxford now regularly finishing top half of tier 3 after four seasons in tier 5 is probably a much more realistic best case scenario for the next 5-15 years.

I'd take an Oxford scenario, or a Doncaster scenario for that matter, even though they're back in League Two next season.

I think many observers would regard League One as Notts County's natural home, relative to the average size of our crowds. In the past, we've managed to (briefly) reach two divisions above that, and at the moment we're two divisions below, so right now it's a case of trying to take that first step back up the ladder, but I see no reason why we aren't capable.

Yes Doncaster is a good shout. Not doing too good presently but their fans must have enjoyed the last 19 years for the most part since climbing out of tier 5. Another one that has relocated though, the summer before they went up to tier 2 the first time around.

Doncaster's old ground Belle Vue was a right dump to be honest. I remember one of their former owners tried to get it burnt down in the middle of the night, causing hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of improvements! :D
