Yes we do. The history of human kind has always shown that when faced by death or subjugation, we generally choose death. But it depends on your personality type, for instance, there are types that if you throw a ball and say fetch, they will.
Star trek is accurate, when faced with being captured, they rig the ship for destruction. The Ukrainians are fighting to the death for the joy of deciding for themselves what their lives will be. There is a religious aspect, that the Universe is creating life to be aware of itself. That the Universe is alive, that all there is is an expression of god. Including you and me, that we, an ant, butterflies etc are all god. Even a rock is alive.
It has been proven that two atoms once connected, can never be disconnected no matter how far apart they are. Having such ability in regards to the senses, intelligence, our ability to create, way above that of the animal kingdom seems to show that humans are seriously special.
Without free will we are nothing. Why do some destroy, like Putin, etc, and others save Elephants, ducks, and try and save the world from suffering?

As an individual your are seriously powerful in all that you do. To my dogs i am god. Im sure how you treat those less powerful than yourself decides a lot. How you think is key. As are your genes. Your genes are store houses of all that has come before, you are building your next life every second of this life.
As you asked a good question, i will reward you. As well as genes you have been programmed by your early life, whatever that was, and is stored in your subconscious. Thats all the thoughts feelings and attitudes that you now function under. You are functioning like that automatically. Imagine yourself as a captain on the bridge of a ship, and you see the sea, the route, weather etc.
