On a ratio of Covid deaths per million of population the Uk is currently 203rd out of 228 countries. That is 202 countries have had fewer Covid deaths per million of population than the UK.

Bear in mind that for at least the last quarter of a century the UK has had the 5th most powerful economy in the world, regardless of being in / out of the EU and regardless of the party of government.

If the UK had had the same ratio of Covid deaths as the 50th best in the world then in the UK that would have been 5,695 deaths. The actual number of Covid deaths in the UK is 181,580. That is an excessive death count of 175,885. This is based on a comparison of UK (203rd) with the 50th country. Clearly we should expect to be at least in the top 10 of fewest deaths.
