I think if you listen to the words of the judge you will pick up the reasoning that ensures fair justice for victims, offenders and the wider public. There has been for a long time a sense, whether justified or not, that judges have not adequately addressed concerns about justice being done as well as seeing to be done.
I'm with BT on this, I'm a bit fed up with police and 'victims' grandstanding on the court steps after every high profile case anyway, it now seems obligatory for this to happen, I've no idea why. Do we really need judges grandstanding for the TV cameras as well ? This just the foot in the door, once it's accepted as normal they'll be pressing for the whole case to be televised, it's inevitable. Should we be turning criminal court cases into reality TV shows ? I think not, but it's coming, this is just the first step.
I've followed this case and can agree with the judge on the lenient sentence he was given.
