Clarets v Lions Match Preview.
Turf Moor, Burnley, BB10 4BX.
Kick-off 19.45 Tuesday 30th August 2022.
The games simply keep on coming thick and fast in the Championship. Burnley will next entertain Gary Rowett’s Millwall on Tuesday evening at Turf Moor, following a hugely encouraging 5-1 away win at Wigan on Saturday.
The Lions now sit 16th in the Championship table in the wake of a 1-0 home defeat to league leaders Reading on Saturday and have accumulated seven points from their six league games so far this season, ahead of their arrival at Turf Moor to face Vincent Kompany’s Clarets on Tuesday night.
Millwall are finding goals difficult to come by and the loss of defensive stalwart Ryan Leonard who is out for a couple of months will not help the Lions’ cause against a rampant Burnley side who have netted eight times in their last two games.
One’s to watch: For Millwall, manager Gary Rowett is struggling to find a goal scoring combination and may well rely on Andreas Voglsammer and Zian Flemming to provide the thorn in Burnley’s side.
Vincent Kompany’s new look Burnley team continue to gel and improve, loan star Nathan Tella and Clarets fans’ local favourite Jay Rodriguez are becoming a potent force and will undoubtedly prove to be a handful for the Bermondsey outfit.
Verdict: I watched the Clarets play some of the best football I have seen for years at Wigan on Saturday afternoon. My heart says a resounding home win for Kompany’s Clarets and my head cannot disagree. A 3-0 win for Burnley seems logical to me and hopefully the Clarets will close the gap on Reading at close of play on Tuesday night.
Footnote: I well remember braving the post-match attention of the Lions’ fans in September 1994 when the Clarets won 3-2 away at the Den. Ted McMinn was the driving force of the Burnley victory on that sunny September afternoon in South-East London, I often wonder why we do not see that quality of wing play in these contemporary times? “Tin Man” you were a special talent.
Let's hope for a full house on Tuesday to help bring the lads home.
