O/T Is it time to ban smileys from this board?

Posters use smiley faces at the end of their posts for two main purposes:

1. In a thinly disguised attempt to pretend that they are not being grossly insulting. As in "Moderator you are an absolute prick for threatening to ban me just because I keep calling you a prick" :s

2. To make clear that a comment is meant to be witty, especially when it's not :zzz:

So can we have a month's trial to allow posts to stand or fall by their content rather than with the use of some fuc king daft icon?:)

It's hard to tell if someone is being ironic sometimes on a message board, that's why you have smileys.

I must admit that I do cringe sometimes but then I think I’ll get into an argument if I don’t use them
