The EFL have been looking at allowing earlier kick off times in order to save energy costs relation to the floodlights. They have ruled it out for, amongst other things, causing displeasure to fans! No such concern from the EFL though when the TV companies want early kick off times!

League One and Two and the whole of non league football should be allowed to have early kick offs if they so wish.
It would be interesting to know what the cost of a daytime match versus an evening match actually are?
It’s not just floodlights it’s lighting all around the ground etc.
I’d like to bet that even at non league level such as Stourbridge you could previously have been looking at £50 plus for electricity for an evening match because lighting comes on around 5.30pm at least and is usually on until 10.15pm or later.
If you’re a non league club with gates of as low as 20 or 30 in the lower levels and even up to 500 to 1000 such as Stourbridge you could easily now be looking at £300 to £500 per match for power.
I remember in the 70’s when some midweek matches were kicking off in the afternoon during power cuts.
I distinctly remember Liverpool playing a midweek match with a kick off around 2.00pm and there only being a 28,000 crowd rather than their usual 55,000 in those days!
The only plus for non league this winter is the World Cup, it should see larger gates at these matches which may offset the energy spikes.
