More to the point, this bit of fiddling about was so simple it just shows how inept the negotiators were at the time.

Perhaps I’m being naive regarding this but why can’t goods bound for the Irish Republic go directly there instead of going via the rest of the UK? Goods go from Germany into France etc. without problems so why not to the ROI. It doesn’t make sense to me. Is it the cost of the sea crossing? That can be the only logical conclusion that I can come to.

Leicester it's the concept of border down the Irish sea that is most problematic to NI, there has to be checks on goods coming from and into the EU at some determined point.

As for Sunak - it's once again a case of, "we've created our own mess and aren't we fkin great for fixing it".

I understand that WCV but why should there be a border in the Irish Sea if goods from the EU go directly to the ROI and not via Northern Ireland. In that way goods are going from one EU member to another and as I say, the same as from France to Germany etc.

My understanding is that if the goods go directly from an EU country to Republic of Ireland by sea then there is no imaginary border in the Irish Sea. However, because of costs, a lot of goods are transported by road from the EU and therefore have to cross the UK to reach their destination.

This has bugged me for years. If businesses are using the UK as a land bridge, there should be a toll. Our infrastructure is costly enough, without free use for no benefit
