Carlos’ Style of Play

Our head coach has saved us from potential League 1 football. His style has therefore undoubtedly worked, given the quality of the majority of 1st team players.
Now, with injuries, and players’ lack of confidence with recent results, it seems that his style does not suit. Indeed, the playing out from the back, across the back and constant back passing has created frustrations from the supporters, resulting in significant booing at the end of the QPR game.
I would hope to see a plan B in these circumstances, but if ‘in Carlos we trust’ I regrettably do understand the continuance of his style of play. Personally very frustrating to see the continual passing back, particularly Furlong and Pieters, (the latter’s pass back to Griffiths gifting the QPR equaliser) However it is evident that they are playing to orders, so I guess I must accept these consequences?

PS Why does he play Wallace on the left from time to time ?

Carlos’s style of play is quite good but like all systems, it doesn’t work all of the time. From his antics and gesticulations on the touchline, it would appear that the players are deviating from his plans. Those plans will work best with our first choice players and the squad has been badly hit by injuries and the backup players are not quite good enough to play that way. Yes, a plan B would be good but some of them probably are not good at that, either! Also, we are not the only club faltering in this way, that is why we are still only five points off a playoff place.

Anyway, Carlos has probably saved us from League One this season but with the state of the finances and with Lai still as the owner, it may well have only delayed that relegation by one season!

In fairness to Pieters, there was nothing wrong with his back pass but Griffiths’ heavy touch which caused the problem. I will agree though that this passing across the back four and goalkeeper is very frustrating. We now need to win matches so we must adopt a more adventurous and energetic approach. It will be more risky but this slow build up is not working.

Putting a snail on would speed up play, our ‘style’ and slow methodical play gives teams chance to regroup and get back into shape thus causing us to play square and backwards, Furlong irritates me to death, rarely passes forward always the easy option of backwards, never tasks responsibility.
When was the last time we caught a team on the break?

Furlong was the only one yesterday moving forward, always looking for forward momentum. Pieters was really strange yesterday and even when we were approaching their box he passed back to the keeper (big groans for that one) The team has lost its momentum but I still maintain that despite the poor form of late we would be comfortably in the play offs if not for Bruce. I’m sure Carlos would have won a few of those games. Looking forward to next season now. No more stress. It’s over for this season.

Pieters has done well up to the last 3 or 4 games, he is carrying injury and I think the toll of the championship has caught up with him .
Albrighton has only had a good one half and that was on debut , waste of a loan and his wages .

Agree! Furlong, Townsend and Ajayi are poor players and it consistently shows. No creativity in the middle and the lump of lard up front is not good enough!

Palmer should be back in immediately FFS! That second goal was shocking and clearly the fault of Griffiths who is not a patch on Palmer!!

Not seen Huddersfield play in such a slow robotic manner in their last six games and they have less quality than us! Their players are fighting for the badge though!

Carlos’s impressive start was fantastic but since Burnley we have been poor so he needs to get a grip! You remember the last games more and they have been utter s hite!!!

You can only take risks and be more energetic if the players in front of the back 4 actually move it's easy to blame the back 4 but if there is no movement in front of them who are they supposed to pass the ball to? if we knock it long to BTA or Dike how many times do they actually hold the ball up long for the other players to join in, at the moment we are forced to play a player out of position on the left which is really affecting us, the worry i have is in the summer Corberan won't be able to bring in players that are going to change our style.
