That’s my point Lloyd about the lack of fairness in council tax being the same thereabouts on a 500/700K house compared with houses worth 3 million plus. Not many houses either in Chelsea/Kensington less than 2 million. Council tax should be calculated in bands of the worth of your property with NO maximum!
So Tamara Elllestone who lives in a 30 million pound mansion with 50 staff pays no more council tax than you! Even a 12 year old would figure out the lack of fairness! So this rich cow who has not worked in her life could even be eligible for 1600 universal credit and no doubt she would pocket it faster than a Romanian pick pocket! You couldn’t make it up! I bet she uses the NHS too!
Apart from council - not much under a million in Chelsea and Kensington as worked and lived in London for years!
What don’t I get about universal income? Is it any different from those who received but didn’t need the government energy support ie £67?
I bet they are getting their bins emptied in Chelsea and Kensington.
Council Tax is based on values from 1991. There has been no revaluation since then; as successive governments have failed to grasp the nettle. There was plenty of property in the north of K & C that was below the top rate band (£320,000) at that time but things are a little different now!
Hi Mick, someone has worked it out that if all adults paid 0.48%of their annual income, it would raise money for most councils.
But you are right honesty, goes out the window for too many people.
Also if there was just one tax rate of 20% it would raise more tax, if everyone didn't try to evade paying.
Of course you’re right Lloyd, the more you tax the more people find ways of hiding it.
I’d rather everyone on a living wage or above paid 20%, 20% off a billionaire is far better than zero from a tax dodging millionaire.
All parties are too scared of the backlash to contemplate this though.
