Townsend

I have read an interview with Andros Townsend who was offered a contract, terms agreed, only for it to be withdrawn in favour of younger players.

On a free, I would have thought that having him in and around the squad could only be a positive.

Whilst it is clear from “Mission to Burnley” that the plan is to bring in young talent, improve them, then sell two or three a year, staying in the PL has to be a financial priority I would have thought.

To achieve that this season we do need a blend of youth and experience at this level, as Charlie Taylor is demonstrating. Having Nathan Redmond and Andros Townsend to call on and to help the younger players would be a no-brainer for me.

I thought the same Swiss after reading the BBC Sport article, we just lack that bit of experience. By the same token we could have kept Bash for another season (but not both).

I think it was a mistake not to keep Bash for one more season. We are so lightweight up front crossing balls is almost a waste of time, hence I believe the poor set pieces against Manure.

I think they will spend as little as possible on wages, and on players that can’t be sold with a profit. Don’t think relegation has been in their mindset at all preseason. By what players we have signed it looks like we want to sell 2 wingers, 2 central defenders and maybe a goalie next year to fund some new talents and some down payments on some of our loans. Hopefully Vinny can make it all come together:)

At the time I thought the way Townsend was treated was tacky and tawdry, he did well on the pre-season tour, showed well in games and for VK to change his mind at the last minute was unprofessional to say the least. >:(

The good old BBC, they are absolutely, utterly incapable of publishing anything about us without getting something wrong. This time they've got the ages of Koleosho and Amdouni the wrong way round, but what does it matter to them, it's only Burnley, crap little racist ****hole somewhere up north. It happens so often I'm almost convinced they must be doing it on purpose.

One of our neighbours works freelance as a production editor for the BBC usually out of Manchester which is of course fairly local to Burnley and east Lancashire.

She tells me the North/South bias is so embarrassing she wants to tell the Beeb to stick their job up their arse but the money is so good it would be financial suicide to do so.

I could write a blinking essay on her recollections of their "woeful research" on east Lancashire and its "reporting".

She's a Londoner and reckons if the BBC could get away with it only the south-east and the M25 inner circle would feature at all. :?

It's a bit of a surprise he hasn't got another contract, could it be him, or his agent, are aiming too high ? Surely there are Championship clubs and below who would happily take him on if his wage demands were reasonable. The fact that we offered him a contract at all might indicate our summer transfer window was not exactly going as planned.

I think that is one of the poor decisions of the season.
Young/ old what ever...where are the goals coming from?
You can have all the possession and all the chances ... who has the quality to score in this league?

I asked the same question very recently. I don’t think even VK knows the answer to that one. The novelty of playing in this league wore off for me very quickly. I would think I’m not alone with this view.
