Being a true fan

... sometimes isn't much fun. Here at Burnley we have been luckier than most in this respect. People forget what a great team we had in the sixties, reaching a cup final, playing in the European Cup (and being projected to win it) and the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. They forget that for about 8 weeks in 1969 our youth team destroyed the best teams in the League. They forget us winning a cup final, going 30 games without defeat in 1920. But for the First World War we would have gone down as one of the really great teams, winning the cup final in the last year before the war and the league in the first year after it, There have been many great times to be a Burnley Fan, and at the moment it is hard work, especially after last year with the frustration of knowing what needs to be done and not being willing or able to do it. This is the nature of the true fan. It doesn't matter what is going on on the pitch because we remain loyal to our team.

This is a time for us to remain loyal. Things won't be this bad for ever, and hopefully in the next few weeks and with a transfer deadline in January we will be ok this season. I doubt if VK will be with us much longer, and I hope the new year will see us moving onward and upwards. Being a TRUE fan is sometimes not easy, but for the true fan it isn't a choice. Have a little patience aand soon you will once again be proud of our great team.

When you've followed Burnley for 60+ years and have done it because your dad did the same (he was watching us beat West Brom in '53 while my mum was giving birth to yours truly) you've seen all the ups and downs and you know you will continue to support the club come what may because it's a lifetime commitment. The great highs are made more enjoyable from having experienced the great lows.

. Completely agree with all you have said very well articulated. The biggest problem is Vk is asking the players to play like he played and unfortunately they are just not good enough to do so as they are not technically gifted to do so.

So right Chas, for the TRUE fan, it's like being in the Hotel California, you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.O:)

I'm not certain but since my paternal grandfather first took me on the Turf in 1957 I have witnessed 19 relegations (I will confirm later) and we are still standing.

Burnley Football Club will be here long after Pace and Kompany have gone. UTC#

BT, you will be the same as me with 9 relegations and 9 promotions --my first game was August 1952. Life and football at the Turf goes on apace or without apace XD
