Head warped on v8 engine , why didn't they use the Rover v8 .
I took the engine out and replaced it with the Triumph 2,500 TC straight 6 and sold it on for a profit .

My first car was a brand new Mini clubman. Within two years of ownership the locks packed up and I couldn't get in or out. The engine bolts sheared which broke the whole exhaust system. Battery kept shorting due to poor battery terminals fitted. An intermittent squeaky sound from underneath the car which was never resolved. Someone nicked the whole front grill and filler cap, everything was easy to steal in them days. wheel bearing replacements for the front two wheels. Engine would sometimes splutter and die when I was attempting 3 point turns on busy main roads. The handbrake cable broke and found the car at the bottom of the road instead of outside the house.
The Mini was far and away the most innovative car ever designed on paper but when built it was more or less a crock.

Never had an unreliable car to be honest. Even my very first car bought for £260 (MG 1300 Saloon) drove great and went through 3 MoT's before being traded in for a brand new Ford Fiesta.
Triumph TR7, head gasket went, sorted that then the bottom end locked up on the M5.
Hi , I restored a MGB Gt pagent blue .
My mate round the corner has 3 MGB's and a MGC .
His son built a MGC sebring replica with a v8 engine , when he was 18 and it was featured in a classic car magazine .
He worked on Car SOS , now he has his own restoration business .
Some of his restored MG's cost up to £80k and he has awaiting list , not bad for a lad in his early 20s
Back in the mid 70’s, I had an Opel Commodore, it was a company car, fortunately, as it was a pile of junk, a really dreadful car. The automatic transmission had a mind of its own; on one occasion when braking for a roundabout, it just changed gear and spun me round 360 degrees! More recently, I had a Citroen Cactus automatic, another unreliable car; it was the transmission that was the main problem, Citroen ‘fixed’ it once but subsequently they wanted to charge me a fortune for new automatic gearbox. I traded it in for a Ford Focus Vignale, which is a lovely car. Hope I haven’t spoken too soon!
