This is what we already know Mick. The only difference is the signings having to be cleared in advance with the EFL. We knew before this news that we can’t spend much at all to keep within the limit. Glad she mentioned where the blame Lai’s though.
Puts in perspective why we’ve been selling off players and signing free transfers.
Can see Palmer being sold tbh.
From the sky sports page:
In fact, it is understood Albion officials have been working closely with the EFL for the past 18 months on all player wage and trading issues, to try to make sure they are compliant with the rules.
Under those League rules, any club which is at risk of breaching PSR limits is given strict new guidelines to work within, with any new transfers needing to be cleared by EFL officials in advance.
We was losing 2m a month and ssince our new owner as taken over it is now down to just under £500k .
According to action for Albion
I understand that Lai has put us in this position but the EFL rules certainly don't help clubs in our position. Premiership clubs are seemingly able to rack up extreme debts still under PSR/FFPP rules but those clubs that have fallen down into the Championship (unless they can bounce back up quickly) soon find themselves having to shed players.
The situation seems mostly caused by the vast gulf in salaries being played to players in the Premiership and the Championship. Maybe players should have a base rate salary with a bonus added for getting promoted to the Premiership which can then be removed if demoted? Of course, it would not stop the better players wanting transfers to Premiership clubs but it might stop demoted clubs having to sell key players on to other Championship ones. Never happen though!
