The management team…

Not criticising…just an observation that Maynard seems pretty much ‘ignored’ on the sideline by the players in-game. Don’t know why it was more noticeable today, but at every stoppage, throw-in etc…one of the coaches…Saunders (Matt) was the one the players were looking to. At all times. I understand he may want to step back and let the other coaches do exactly that, but during one injury stoppage around the half hour mark and the, now usual, team over to the dugout for drinks etc… Maynard seemed totally lost as they circled around Saunders.
Maynard stood there, went to sit down, got back up, retrieved a bottle of water and stood alone again. Didn’t speak to one player at all.

Again, not criticising, just a pure observation that seemed even more obvious today, that the players were gravitating towards Saunders instead.

Can’t knock ‘ the management team’ with the start to the season so it obviously works…and long may it continue!

I noticed that he didn't appear to interact with players when they were subbed off and they never went looking for him. That must be his style so each to their own eh?
I think he has a very structured routine and sticks to it.

Exactly.

I don’t think there will be anything to look into other than it’s Saanders responsibility to do those bits. Bass spoke very high of SM on his pre match presserz I think it’s more a case of empowering Saunders than anything else.

Yeah I think that might be how it works at the club

As obvious as it is Maynard doesn’t have the charisma of Williams but he is quite a likeable guy when you hear him speak.

So far they have done a good job only time will tell if he is any good or not.

This is all coming from someone who thinks the jury is still out but I’ll give credit where it’s due he has so far done a good job this season.

Exactly. Credit where it’s due…liking the start and the recruitment to make it his team.
As I said, not a criticism, more of an observation tbf.

Just seemed glaringly strange to see him like a lost soul when all the players came over and Looked to Saunders and Maynard didn’t utter a word.

I did notice him giving some instructions to Kellan Gordon before he came on but that's a good observation. Interesting and seems to be working.

I'd agree with this. Ultimately the head coach should not have much to do on matchday apart from watch and make mental or physical notes with the occasional instruction so he can see the overall picture and can make judgement looking at the bigger picture without the actual in game management aspect and emotion that can come with it. Some coaches have different styles and may want to get involved as and when they feel it's necessary. Another may take that step back and let the assistant or another of the management team control certain aspects during the game. Also when you've been working on things all week matchday is where it should all come together.

Assistant managers come in all different shapes and sizes.
