I think he's got a point myself .
Yes and he’s a right to be animal.
Time for a good overhaul with that set up in my opinion.
Like getting rid of the academy for starters Poggy .
The club and I dare say a few supporters need to ditch the misty eyed nostalgia of producing our own players that we once did and look at the reality of modern football .
The Academy is a white elephant and it's run by a bunch of jobs for boys merchants and the biggest culprit played right back for 10 seasons for us .
It might seem unfair and unprofessional etc, but I think Clarke has been just about right so far.
Most of the critical stuff he's said, about under performing first team players, and youth players not being good enough, its correct.
However, it can lead to them refusing to put the effort in for him anymore (if he does it too many times), and we know what that then leads to. 😕
After the poor performances before, and at Huddersfield, he seemed to lose his “I will batter/slap it out of them” attitude. Very subdued and quiet .
However, we won Saturday, so the teeth are out again….. a few injuries and these
“ not good enough and out of the door kids “ may be required to fill in…….reverse Phsycology? Or strutting and preening bravado cos he won a couple of away games.…….
By all means play the under 18’s. In a dead rubber.
Don’t then belittle them to make yourself look tough. Bullying that.
Edit: Inappropriate comments!.
Yeah you might have a point there Jules.
If he/Clarke does it, then there should be valid reasons for doing so. Not just to try and make himself look clever, maybe!.
It annoyed the hell out of me when he said, after the two awful defeats at Hudds, that we can't compete with teams like them!.
If he means financially, then yeah I suppose he's right. But I don't think they are that great as a squad and as a footballing team, but we made them look like a quality team in both games. 😧
The club has said in the scheme of things the Academy costs next to nowt to run.
But it’s not producing much either.
Looking back, the players it has produced such as Stones and Holgate may have covered costs over this last few years.
But in saying that - money generated by player sales should be ploughed back into the 1st Team.
Fabio and especially Yogga might come good and become the next money spinners.
I believe the club should persist with the academy and if possible spread the net wider to places such as South America.
With regards to Hudders - they are a terrible team - it’s just that we were worse.
Mainly because DC hasn’t yet sorted the players and the playing style out yet.
Plus of course we had a poor summer window - failing to replace Cole and McAtee.
But DC seems to have turned it around a bit just lately - so I’ve changed mi mind with regards to getting shut and think we should give him a bit more time.
So the jury was out.
Then it was in.
Now it’s back out again.
Shake it all about.
I have said it in earlier thread and will repeat it again , there are none of us on this forum who were the finished article in their chosen profession half way through our training , fans seem to expect a seasoned experienced pro performance from our kids when they walk out onto the field when realistically it is part of their apprenticeship , taking their progression to the next level , some will make the step up ,most will not, it has never been any different throughout the history of the game , every so often a club will get a generation which has rich potential but not every year , the question is , is it worth it ? well that is grounds for a totally different debate , currently I read on different forums some stinging criticism of certain young individuals which really sticks in my throat , it is totally out of order , none of us would like it if we had been judged at 18 , I do not care what anyone says , it is down to the manager to decide when a player is ready to step up and if he is not it is not the players fault it is the manager or HC who has hung them out to dry and any critique should be aimed at them and not the youngster and whilst a manager is right to be honest with his appraisal he should also have a good look in the mirror when playing the blame game .
