Woodstock?
By Joni Michell
It?s got to be one of the worst songs ever put on to a 45 Frank, now I like a bit of Joni now and again but I had forgotten how bad her version was (I know that she wrote it) until it got played on the Paul Gambaccini show, the do de dos at the end hurt my ears I had put my fingers in them to block the noise
Now I know that you like her a lot but surely you have to agree with me on this?

I dont dislike it as much as you but i am indifferent to it, she didnt actually go , it was her attempt to capture the soul of it. Ive never been to an open air pop concert but im sure its not dirge like.
If i was to write something to capture it, it would be like John Miles music, its about music, not being at a russian burial.
Mitchells music flows brilliantly, at pace, not like wading through treacle.
Some of the best music is slow, i heard a piano peice recently thats first class, and its slower than woodstock. Not her best, by far. She wrote it when she was shacked up with Crosby Stills and Nash in a cabin in the USA they may have influenced it.

After giving Joni a hard time over her singing on Woodstock I was listening to the For the Roses album last night and what a wonderful track You turn me on on the Radio is,top notch song sang beautifully

I was going through some albums on YouTube last night Frank and gave Joni Michells Both Sides Now album a listen and oh my god what a superb version she does of the re-recorded title track, she has slowed it right down and put an orchestral arrangement to it and it blew me away, released in 2000 I don?t know how old she was when she recorded but it is wonderful

She went Yampy in her later years recording rubbish, she would not admit it but she just ran out of music, original music. Ill look up the above. She became more of an artist and dissed the music she made, either a sign of ego, or proof that shes yampy.
Ive seen most of her interviews in later years i dont know what shes talkg about, she just talked, inconsequential like, the jazz music she writ was awful.
But she thunked it was brilliant.....still wanting to sell albums, a bit sad really, she had psychiatric problems. Being super bright can miss fire.
