As Tipp. said, Furlong does use his arms quite a bit and whilst that seems to be the norm in the game these days, I do sometimes think he risks a yellow but can never recall seeing him do anything that may warrant a straight red.
From the footage, it is very difficult to tell for certain what happened so surprised the ref was so decisive and cannot see Darnell being so stupid as to commit a foul that would risk a red given the situation in the game when we had just scored. Clearly, Saito's making a meal of it swayed the referee.
TM, in his post-match interview, says he had a good view of the challenge and presume the club would not appeal unless they genuinely thought there were good grounds to do so. Let's just hope we are successful as IMHO Furlong is one of our key players.
To be honest, I have not seen a good enough view of the incident so I cannot make a a valid judgement. TM seems to think that we have a chance of it being overturned and I do not think that he would make a frivolous appeal.
Far too many players prepared to cheat to get an opponent sent off or booked. The FA are too weak to do anything about it, though.
Appeal dismissed , 3 match ban confirmed
TV didn't show the incident, but it looks like the Ref was taking advice over the radio from eithr the Lino or the 4th official, so I don't think he actually saw it.
Not good news but not unexpected. Not sure what evidence the authorities used but we will never know.
So the cheat did for Darnell, nasty little ******. The FA are abysmal, a waste of space.
