I don't think you should approach player of the year by factoring in the play in those positions from last season.
The only evidence is the players performance this season.
From a narrative perspective, I can't understand how the fanbase wouldn't want to choose McGoldrick. Wanting to come back to the club he supports after a stellar career. Possibly his last season playing at this level. "One of our own' and all that. That's a much more compelling narrative than new boys come in and do better than the players who preceding them.
But it doesn't have to be based on narrative, Didzy has been amazing this season. His goals, his all-round play and inspiration of teammates have kept us up there more than any other player IMO. What he does is far rarer and more difficult.
I really hope Didzy gets this, I'd imagine the other players do too.
