Down to 10 men with only 17 minutes to go, Villa score a quite legitimate goal that should have stood.
The question is, would it have been a huge psychological barrier for Man Utd to get over had it stood. As it happens, the game finished 2-0 to Man Utd so Villa wouldn't have won anyway, but would they had the goal stood?

Why can't you understand that because the ref blew his whistle that VAR can't intervene? Once the ref blows his whistle, play stops, so players stop and the play itself doesn't play out to the natural conclusion it would have played out to. You say VAR is killing the game but it wasn't VAR that stopped the goal that Villa should have, IMO, rightly had, it was human error from the referee by stopping the game too early, therefore stopping VAR from not being able to look at it and very likely allowing the goal to stand. On your second point about VAR not being used in the play offs till the final I agree with you, it should be used in all the play off games not just the final, but you contradict yourself there by saying VAR is killing the game, but then wanting it to be involved more in the play offs? It's here to stay and referees need it, and human error by both referees on the field, and the VAR ref in the studio will happen sometimes, but it gets decisions right way more than not. UTMQuote:

Grist, the rules are a mockery pal. VAR is there to assist in situations like this. Irrespective of the claim the Ref blew so they couldn't intervene, VAR often intervenes when a Ref has blown for a penalty as happened last season in the Prem. VAR then having looked at the decision to award a pen, actually over ruled the Ref and gave a free kick to the defending side.Quote:

Also Brin regarding what you have said about penalty decisions being overturned, if a Ref blows for a penalty but the ball breaks to another striker who puts the ball into the net, neither the ref or VAR can give the goal because when the ref blows the whistle during open play it automatically stops the game and any advantage that may have been had cannot be given, but VAR will then still look at the penalty decision and talk to the ref if they think he may have made a mistake. That is also why a linesman will wait to flag for offside if a player is played through on goal to see if they score, which when they put the flag up and if the goal has been scored, it can then be looked at by VAR.
