My opinion of this is that they have, over the past few years particularly got right out of hand and are on the way to ruining the game, mainly for the second tier clubs and those hoping to improve theirs squads to give the cartel of "darlings" a challenge.
Just look at the way a decent player, which we were after has quickly had his head turned by money. Mbuemo gone from Brentford, earning about 50 grand per week which is 2.5 million a year to Manure and on 200 grand per week , which is over 10 million per annum.
There's no guarantee at Manure, if he falls out with the management that he will be a regular starter, or if he has a bad period of injury and loss of form, where does he go from there, and who can afford his wages.
Isn't it time there was a sensible cap on these wages of say 150,000 pounds per week which is the huge sum of 7.8 million a year.
Which poor soul can't manage on that, even after tax.
I can even remember the good old days in the 1950's when Jimmy Hill and Johnny Haynes were fighting the F.A. to give the players 1,000 pounds per year.
A short while before that in the late 1940's they had been on 9 quid a week during the season and reduced to 7 quid per week off season.
