Quite right too! Clearly every company or organisation can’t start putting in extra toilets etc for transgender individuals so if you were born a male then use the men’s loos FFS! Also transgenders should only be allowed to play sport for the s ex they were born. Carlos Alcaraz wins most tennis matches fairly easily so could you imagine him playing in the ladies competitions?

A nurse who complained about sharing a changing room with a transgender doctor has won part of her employment tribunal against NHS Fife, although several claims were dismissed.

Sandie Peggie took action against the health board after she was suspended from her job at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy following a row on Christmas Eve 2023 with transgender medic Dr Beth Upton - who was born male and now identifies as a female.

Ms Peggie, who has worked for the NHS for 30 years, was placed on special leave after Dr Upton made an allegation of bullying and harassment, and cited concerns about patient care.

The nurse lodged a claim against NHS Fife and Dr Upton, citing the Equality Act 2010, including ***ual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination, and victimisation.

The employment tribunal hearings took place in Dundee before Judge Sandy Kemp earlier this year.

I saw this on Channel 4 News this evening; ignorant newsreader didn’t even know how to pronounce Kirkcaldy!

Uncertainties in the interpretation of the law have led to quite a few instances like this over recent years where companies or public services have been so wary of breaching the Equalities Act that they have sided with those pushing a pro trans agenda.

Disregarding the semantic issue over the change in definition of "gender", I have no issue at all with trans individuals per se and can appreciate the often appalling difficulties they must have faced and can continue to face but trans women are not biological women however much they want to be anymore than trans men are biological men. Identifying as a particular gender does not mean you are of a particular *** (as the recent UK Supreme Court ruling has-at last-clarified).

Regarding sport, I believe that this should be open to all but whilst I cannot see an issue with trans women participating in open events for example or even as part of a women's team in non-competitive sports, there is clearly an issue with competitive events. As most have passed puberty by the time they have trans-gendered, they have already developed certain physical advantages over biological women that should preclude them from taking part in competitive women only sports.

The question of toilet and changing room facilities is another matter and should be informed by the fact that the majority of trans women, whilst identifying as women and wanting to live their lives as such, do not elect to have the bits between their legs physically transformed. Nonetheless, I think there are nuances around this too.

Despite all the media coverage over instances of rape carried out by two individuals who claimed to be trans, the data shows that trans individuals as a group are no more disposed to predatory behaviour than any other ***ual orientation are. There is a compelling argument that prejudices against trans women are unfounded and similar to historical cases where all black males were said to prey on white women and homo***ual men on young boys.

The vast majority of trans women who retain their genitalia are not rapists and simply want to live their lives as women and pose no threat to biological women. Neither are they transvestites who are men who may still fancy women but like dressing up. As such, being forced to use the Gents (or, to perhaps a lesser degree, Disabled) facilities is obviously not something they would feel at all comfortable with.

It should go without saying, however, that biological women should feel safe using changing or toilet facilities. This must surely be a priority. The obvious solution would then seem to be to provide separate uni*** toilets for all to use which would also avoid any claims of discrimination but this, whilst an ideal, is clearly not financially viable for the majority of either public spaces or workplaces. The compromise is then surely for trans women (who still have their male genitalia) to use the disabled facilities unless all the women on a particular site do not object to trans women colleagues using the female facilities.

With less than one percent of the population identifying as trans but around 24% identifying as disabled, it might be better to be more concerned about the comparative lack of disabled toilets but the current media attention on trans issues isn't likely to go away anytime soon. They aren't completely black and white concerns though so maybe more discussion is needed and, perhaps, more respect and consideration given by both sides in the meantime.

There was a lad from the Lang Toun at our unit in Germany. He had difficulty with pronunciation as well. Couldn't understand a fkn word that came out of his face at times 🤣 .

Try living in Norfolk where pronunciation of some places leaves out whole syllables 😁 (Hunstanton= Hunston, Happisburgh=Happsbrugh etc)

Yes, can be difficult to know the correct pronunciation of place names but in the case of people appearing in the media, especially newsreaders, they ought to get it right.

As for Happisburgh, I have always heard it as ‘Hazebrugh’!

Well I for one am in no position to criticise the good people of Norfolk for their pronunciation Omeg, nor even their enunciation. I am from Smerrick afterall and do live in Erdington which often comes out as Dirtyvillatuncterritory when asked 😉.

When I was brought into the World, Erdington was where I lived for about seven years, Kingsbury Road. I clearly had a narrow escape from being a Villa supporter! My guardian angel saved me from that!

Yep, it's only a few miles up the coast from me and I've heard it pronounced like that too Ketts. There has been erosion there for years but sad to see just how quickly the cliff top has been falling away in recent years. Feel sorry for those who have lived in properties there for many years whose homes are under increasing threat.
