In fairness, without knowing thé full background, u can argue in the opposite that we have possibly missed out on a bigger fee by not signing him up on an extension last season. 500k in circumstances seems remarkable.

I'm a wee bit concerned at losing Stanton. Thought he was a decent player and always tried. Scored a couple of crucial goals last month too and I think we were starting to see the best of him.
Maybe with Powers coming in we need to free up a wage. But personally I would probably kept Stanton involved for the rest of the season. He's definitely contributed to where we are placed now.
I’m not so sure it’s to do with freeing up a wage OA. I suspect Stanton’s been told he’ll not be kept on at the end of the season and an opportunity has arisen for him that the Club won’t stand in the way of. He gets my very best wishes as he has certainly done his part this season and at least can leave knowing that after three years of scheite he’s done his bit to get us back to where we belong.
A’ the best Sam!
On Hibs forum someone said they heard he wanted more than we were offering, Neilson called their bluff.
Plausible, ethier way it's a shame but we move on

Wish him all the best.
Definitely wish Stanton well, still feeling disappointed about it, maybe end of season not mid season, felt we missed him on Sunday as an option
Plus not like he hasn't featured under Neilson, only Seigrist (58), mcmullan(56) and clark(51) have made more than his 47 apps from RNs 62 in charge and chipped in with his share of goals and assists.
