Where does the line lie with tapping up though?
Does allowing numerous scouts , head of recruitment etc from other clubs to come to Tannadice (and away games) constitute tapping up? I don't think it goes that far, but it would be silly to think that the player/s in question don't know these clubs are watching and if they don't get him sooner , it might be later.
Still plants a seed in their heads and unfortunately more so in the agents.
As long as they don't contact the player directly or via a third party.
Anyone interested has to make an offer to the club first and foremost. It's up to the club if it accepts an offer, then allow the player to negotiate their own contract with their new club.
I'm sure tapping up players does go on though. Probably quite regularly.
Jeezo....if putting in an enquiry regarding a player is tapping up, then the whole country is guilty of it with Shankland! It's a transfer window...we can enquire about anybody!
Managers contact agents every day to check availability of players...its a 2 way street!
I think you might be correct, but I was just commenting on what constitutes "tapping up" any player these days . Whether it be making it obvious you are watching them play (without enquiring obviously) or leaking your interest through the media etc. It is a fine line these days. Now TA is saying 22 clubs have been "watching" LS yet no note of interest or enquiry has been made! I find that very hard to believe.
