Williams has turned the job down because of a poor budget
Not sure I agree. If the club expects the head coach to finish top three but the budget is equivalent to upper-mid table, the head coach has to overperform to achieve those goals.
The next move for LW is huge for his career. I imagine he'd only want to return to Notts if the conditions were in place for success and another promotion. He might have looked at the squad and budget and thought nope.
That's a plausible theory! He likes his 'beggars and choosers' idea...For a Championship job he's destitute again (as he was when he first took the Notts job), but can still be a chooser from L2 downwards I think...
After 2 seasons we all know the level, and we know it's bunched up at L2. There are so many competitive teams but few outstanding ones. If you don't quite stack up it's very easy to go from 6th to 16th
Also, we took a pragmatic step after 2023-24. A Williams style goal - Baldwin to Bostock to Rodrigues/Crowley, play in Nemane behind and Langstaff scores - isn't as available now
LW isn't coming back to Notts unless Swansea has moved closer. That was 1 of his main deciding factors in leaving. Said so himself. Would you employ somebody again who came out with that, knowing his family & wifes business is there? I wouldn't.
I also don't see the Dane coming either. People have just been putting 2+2 together. The Dane link & his contract ending & someone putting a fiver on him at the bookies so his name appears.
I could be barking up the wrong tree completely but that's my view.
