I would agree that having a leader who lacks the toxicity of Corbyn (and his chums) will assist the party, but it will not be enough if the new top team retains the ludicrous nationalisation and spend, spend, spend approach of the current lot. If having a working class background assisted a person to be an effective and charismatic leader then Long-Bailey and Raynor would be good shouts. Unfortunately, having a modicum of ability is probably more important.

Is it true that Burgon is threatening to stand? A crushing defeat and then that... Can it get any worse for Labour?

A thought for you. If you discount the Blair victories (because, as current Labour supporters like to point out ad nauseam, he was Tory lite) then it is now 45 years since Labour won an election and there will be four and a half years before the next one.

I agree with Philips. It would be great if those who deserted the party in the last few years rejoined and had a say in electing the new leader, and helping to reshape the next agenda. I agree with animal in that 'rebooting' New Labour is too simplistic, but there does need to be a new agenda and unification of left and centre of the party. We need a leader who can orchestrate that, and can learn from the recent past. But the more moderates we can get joining the party, the more we can shape it in the way we want.

It will be interesting to see how it pans out. No policies should be sacred, and no one cause on it's own should be blamed. We all need to take a good hard look at ourselves. Neither lurching suddenly to the centre is desirable, neither is remaining with the current politics. We need something that can bring everyone, less the hard core trots and SW types (who in fairness I hardly ever meet) together and from that define a new approach.

Who for you has the modicum of ability that you're looking for and think would get you interested in voting Labour again? You think Starmer can cut it in light of his remainery passion and London base? Who would you like to see?

I really don't understand this misguided loyalty to any political party, Its not like you are deserting the Millers to go and watch Wednesday because they are doing ok, Its a choice in every election to consider the parties manifesto and make a decision using head not heart. Be your own person, not who your father or his father before him voted for.

Exactly mate it’s bloody ridiculous how people could vote for a party based on a brand yet they moan about how bad things are like town centres and moan that they are not being listened too. These people are worse kind of people they usually have no argument why you should vote labour they just condemn you for not voting for their cult

Was this aimed at my post? If so, where have I condemned anyone for voting Labour?

My reply to Kerr, supporting Jess Philips wish to get more moderate Labour supporters to bring about a different direction isn't blindly following the Labour Party. It's trying to help direct the party, to get involved and not just see political parties as something that we sit outside of, waiting for their offer. Nothing wrong with people that don't want to get involved obviously, just a suggestion that those who have professed prior support to the Labour party in the past, and being critical in the present, get involved in this time of reflection and help direct it back to where you could support it. I only say this as most people who have criticised Labour have not been happy with the alternatives. If they were then fine.

But it isn't blind support. I'll be looking at the direction that Labour take, and looking at who the Libs elect as their next leader and the direction they take. And I'll continue supporting the Greens.

I’m talking about people in general there’s a common trait around here that if you vote Tory you are trash but if you ask them why they voting labour they will come out with some BS like labours for the working class and I’m voting labour because Iv always voted labour,

If I was to describe my own political views I would say I’m a centralist that’s leans more to the left even my brexit views are centralist. I will never vote for a party due to some ****ed up smack head reason like Iv always voted for them
