I generally disagree with as it has happened to us so many times. Brighton would basically be in a situation where the players value will continue to diminish as the contract runs down.
They can try and hold out for a high fee or hope White will sign a contract extension, it is unlikely in both scenarios.
If he hands in a transfer request he will be sold fairly quickly I think. Best chance of a high value would be to sell asap.
They should be thinking he wants to go to Leeds as he's turned down new contracts and am sure if he has to stay he could just run down his contract. I doubt he will play as well for them, as the system will be different and Potter isn't MB. It's a high risk strategy from Brighton, I would imagine other possible bidders will be aware Ben probably prefers to return to Leeds into a system he knows.
Of course Ben and agent could be playing everybody to get a better deal with Brighton, he recently bought a house in area and is from south coast.
Putting in a transfer request in old days was to let clubs know you're unsettled. These days they have agents to do that, and avoid losing loyalty payments etc.
It's a shame that the home game against Brighton is not until next January, otherwise would be great to see the team put Potter in his place!!.
Ha yeah though maybe its more the board trying to get more money out of us, Dunk has just signed a long term contract, so will Chelsea come in with a bigger bid for White? The other thing is if it all falls through and White ends up having to stay, imagine how the fans and teammates would view him knowing he wanted away by confirming with an official transfer request he's best staying silent, let his agent talk for him.
If he wants to move badly enough there isn’t much the club can do.
Actually, if they are under contract clubs can do a lot. Usually, if a player say has months to go on the contract they cave in and get something for them but if they wanted to they can make them sit it out.
Signing a contract is binding as it guarantees both party's rights.
So basically it's 50/50 do we sell to get something for him wait for a better offer and see if they want to go there!
Player under contract has no right to dictate to the club where he wants to go. As the club has the final say.
We had situations here where said player wants to go to a club and the current club said no you go where we tell you. The player rejects and sits out his contract without playing and not getting paid and still unable to join the club of choice.
One player stood out for 2 years lol and by then he was no good.
Brighton are playing a game though and if White and his agent play it too and play it well then the lure of the money on offer for him will make it difficult for them to hold on to him.
Dunk just signed a 5 year contract so that is one road block to him getting first team football.
Who knows though. If we bring in a player with more experience and pedigree than White has when he joined us imagine what the MB coaching regime can do for them.
So long as they sign someone decent ...
time to move on from the White debate, no?
