That theory is fine - I doubt anyone can question the logic behind the idea, if indeed that is what the owners are doing. Sustainability is key. However, we must not lose sight of the facts.

This is the weakest League 2 in many years - you do not have *big* teams with a budget exceeding anyone else. There is no Wrexham, or Stockport, or even the Stags, whose spending is at a higher level. The fact Walsall are 12 points clear with a game in hand, with Crewe and Vale coming next says it all! There is plenty of dross in this league and we have a tremendous opportunity to go up this year, potentially automatically. It would be extremely disappointing to throw that away by flogging our best players to fit a so called *process*.

I am not criticising the owners, but they need to be careful what they wish for.

And allowing them the platform to perform (this shouldn?t be underestimated. There?s a reason they were available). Be interesting to know how many of the buyers would still pay the money in hindsight? Oddly enough it?s probably the 2 that were allowed to run contracts down that have been most successful.

To further your analogy the timing of the sell has to also consider the dividend date? In this case May when promotion is decided.

I think under any other regime I?d be bothered about selling key players - not that it happened often. Under this regime they have consistently found gems and there is no reason to think this wouldn?t carry on.
We seem to go through this every January now? Woots, Ruben, Macca, JJ and now Jatta (there may be others) - the reality is we have only let one key player leave in January and that?s because he wanted too. My gut is that the bros will only sell in January if an inflated offer is received or the player himself says let me go.
Folk calling the bros and the way they run the club out is quite frankly embarrassing

Don't tink that matters nowadays. We've signed players with no coach in place. MKD signed Crowley, wanted him in the Summer under a different Coach

Of course, football isn't a normal business to apply a chosen "model" to. Like most of us, my interest in Notts isn't about profit and loss. Conversely, irrational passion doesn't matter much to bean counters. For Notts as an entirety, promotion is more important than maximising profit. This isn't a criticism of the Bros model, and thank heavens they invest in Notts, but unless you are a behemoth like Liverpool or City, nobody in their right mind would see football club ownership as a good business investment. After four years of ownership are Notts really any nearer to making a profit?

The next set of accounts to 30.06.24 are due at companies house by 31st March at the latest (they filed them in Jan last year) so we will have a bit of a better idea then. However Langstaff went to Millwall at the start of July so that will not be included.

That's a good analogy. Of course, most retail investors prefer to YOLO into meme stocks for an outside chance of amazing returns at very high risk, which is what we see reflected in a lot of comments here. Having said that, Hoppie makes a good point about the ex-dividend date as well

Certainly hasn't been reinvested in the playing squad YET as we know for a fact we aren't getting a seasoned pro to replace Crowley like we need instead we are expecting basically kids with barely a professional game in men's football to replace him and we have been crying out for god knows how long sine Macca left for another striker which so far hasn't materalised.
