I find it utterly bizarre that Barrow parted company with manager Pete Wild after a "post season review", saying that the club and the manager had different ideas about the way forward.

I thought he dd a remarkable job getting them into the play-off picture even though they fell just short in the end. It wouldn't surprise me if Barrow's next "post season review" is preparing for life back in the National League, and I wouldn't mind looking at Pete Wild for Notts if Stuart Maynard doesn't start to motor. I doubt Wild will be out of work long enough for that though.

I got the feeling from that parting statement that Pete Wild possibly wanted a bigger budget than he was being offered to compete, or something like that. I doubt the club were unhappy with how he had the team performing on the budget they gave him.

And yes, much as I want Maynard to succeed I'd be happy with Wild as a potential replacement if it doesn't work out. Not sure how he'd cope with the Brothers and Montague tho.

I don't think any football manager worthy of consideration would have a problem with our owners and their support staff as people - you probably won't find a more honest and reasonable group of people anywhere in football. I assume the doubt would be over whether the manager's football philosophy fits in with the very specific identity our club has now established, but if a really good manager becomes available at the right cost, there should be room for a bit of give and take.

Yeah. I'm not suggesting our owners are high maintenance or anything. I'd back them and our current model over any other owners we've had since Pavis for sure.

But what I was hinting at was that there are a lot of managers out there who want to 'manage' rather than coach. By that I mean having autonomy over signings, formation and style of play etc.

I'm not sure if Pete Wild is that or not as tbh I don't know loads about him other than his success at Barrow and Halifax. But if he was someone who desired the final say on these things he probably wouldn't be right for us.

"If" it doesn't work ot?!

The Pete Wild love in on parts of this thread is quite strange, what ‘success’ at Halifax or Barrow has he had in any form? Keeping a team on low resources in a decent position in their league? The same type of CV that SM gets pelters for on here.

Pete Wild has a far better win ratio in the EFL. Whereas Mr wonderful and his management team are barely out of double figures with his win percentage. I would hardly call those the same...

If the way Barrow played at Notts in January is indicative of a Pete Wild side, I’ll pass.

I don't think you can compare Barrow to Notts. We are a far bigger club. Wild did very well at Barrow to keep them near the top for most of the season.
