Money aside, top players don't want to play in front of small crowds. Ditto top managers.
It's always going to be easier with big crowds, harder with small ones. Clubs who defy that basic logic are either over or under achieving and usually they soon revert to type. That's how football works and always has done.
If I was wrong about this, as I've pointed out before, then Leicester City winning the PL would have been no bigger deal than Man City, Liverpool or Chelsea winning it and clubs far far bigger than Bury would have gone under.
